SHARED FAMILIES:

Because there are so few sarcoma specialists, sarcoma cancer patients often find themselves traveling great distances to receive treatment and follow-up which can be costly both financially and emotionally. To meet this need, SHARED FAMILIES was the first ever program offered by the AMSCHWAND SARCOMA CANCER FOUNDATION as part of the vision of its late founder Tom Amschwand.

The program provides free housing to out of town sarcoma and sometimes other cancer patients (and their families) receiving treatment in the Texas Medical Center. A network of families in the Houston area volunteer their time and homes for these patients and their families. And the program is publicized to sarcoma cancer patients through the American Cancer Society, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and The Methodist Hospital. Our hope is to expand to additional institutions in the future.

The Amschwand Sarcoma Cancer Foundation Shared Families program is always looking for host families in the Greater Houston area willing to share their homes and hospitality with patients receiving treatment in the Texas Medical Center. This temporary and short-term housing is provided free of charge to patients and their loved ones. Both host and recipient families are carefully screened.

If you are willing to serve as a host family, know someone who is in need of such housing, or simply would like to learn more about us, please contact the Amschwand Sarcoma Cancer Foundation.

Together we can make a difference in the lives of so many.
